I grew up with entrepreneurial parents who ran several businesses. They were great parents and they worked harder than almost anyone I have known. My dad had real vision. He could see what the business could become, but he never had a strong second in command. My mom hated being in the business.

The strain was real. They balanced a growing business with a growing family. They met payroll when the money was not there. They lived off the same business they were trying to build and never quite found the right people or got them doing the right things. The stress came home: late nights and an empty house after school.

They sold their most successful business, a computer company in Coeur d'Alene, for less than they had hoped. By then I had moved to Boise to finish my degree.

My parents were smart. They worked harder than almost anyone I've known. What they didn't have wasn't ability. It was training.

I went to work inside large multinationals and saw how companies with thousands of employees make it work. Their people have training, systems and tools. Owner-led businesses do not. The knowledge exists, but owners lack the bandwidth and the resources to use it.

I became a certified EOS Implementer in 2016 and loved the work. But EOS is built for a business that is already handing accountability to a team. My parents' business never got there. That gap is what I am working to close.
